Cullen Jenkins Awaits Word From His Father **UPDATED**
Packers defensive end Cullen Jenkins has battled through adversity all season. He has missed 5 games due to injury, but the seventh-year former undrafted free agent has a much more pressing issue on his mind as of late: He hasn’t heard from his father in over a month.
“We just haven’t heard from him,” Jenkins said. “He went out to Hawaii and we haven’t heard from him since he went out there. It’s been a little over a month.”
Jenkins father, Darome Jenkins, moved to Hawaii awhile ago but returns occasionally. On Wednesday, Jenkins told reporters that not hearing from his father for over a month is unusual.
Although the details surrounding Darome Jenkins whereabouts are still uncertain, Cullen is holding out hope that his father will show up in Dallas and join the rest of his family for Super Bowl XLV.
“I have a ticket for him still that I’ve been saving, keeping it just in case I hear from him or do hear anything before the game,” said Jenkins.“It’s a tough situation, but you’ve just got to try not to think about it too much. Just focus on everything else and try to stay busy with everything else. Obviously you’re concerned for his safety, concerned about how he is, his state, everything. We’ve just got to wait and let it play itself out. There’s nothing much I can do from right here.”
**UPDATE**: Jim Polzin of the Wisconsin State Journal reports that “Darome Jenkins is alive and well.”
A Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman told KITV on Thursday that Darome Jenkins contacted the department and said he is fine but wants his privacy.
