Hey, Clay Matthews – Nice Genes!
Following his five tackle, three sack performance against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, Clay Matthews III was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his two-year career. The award was well deserved considering four of his five tackles were for a loss.
Clay Matthews III’s father, Clay Matthews Junior, was no slouch himself. The former Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons linebacker was a 4-time Pro Bowler totaling 69.5 sacks and 16 interceptions over 19 seasons.
Clay Jr. and Clay III become the first father-son duo to ever win Player of the Week awards. And if Clay Matthews III continues to post an eye-dropping 3 sacks per game, he might just surpass his father as greatest Matthews linebacker to ever play the game.

The most unbelievable thing about Clay is he is only on his second year, not even close to when players generally hit their “prime”. If he’s this good not, what will he be like in a few years? Scary thought for opposing offenses.
