Packers Sign Maurice Simpkins
Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Marice Simpkins. The move fills out the 80-man training camp roster after the Packers placed cornerback Josh Bell on injured reserve earlier today.
Simpkins played collegiately for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers last year. He recently completed a season of Indoor Football League for the Green Bay Blizzard. Now he wears jersey #53 for the Green Bay Packers. The 6-foot, 236-pound Simpkins was first team All-IFL . He was also the league’s most improved player.
The arrival of Simpkins could not have come at a better time, as the Packers are in need of training camp bodies. At this evening’s practice, linebacker Cyril Obiozor left early with an apparent calf injury. The Packers are already without linebackers Clay Matthews, Alex Joseph, and Frank Zombo.
